And so glad to be, to capture this unusual rain shot in the usually hot and sunny red city… We had a great time hiding in arch ways and trying to stop our equipment and ourselves getting completely soaked… Thanks Ashok for the wonderful review on TripAdvisor: https://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Attraction_Review-g293734-d2242670-Reviews-Suzanne_Porter_Marrakech_Photo_Experiences-Marrakech_Marrakech_Tensift_El_Haouz_R.html#REVIEWS.  Such fun spending time with you all in Marrakech and hope you come back soon!

Today I gave a lecture to the sociology students at the Université Grenoble Alpes…

…as part of their ‘Parcours de sociologues’ on the different career paths taken by Sociologists.  It was so rewarding going through all my old material and revisiting the projects I documented while working for the NGO’s… Just thought I’d share a little with you.  These photos were taken in Cameroon whilst working for Sightsavers.  We followed two little ladies who were blind from cataracts, from the before to the after when we witnessed their joy of seeing their grandchildren for the first time.  Lives were certainly changed…

Another fabulous Photo Experience in Marrakech…

I am very excited to announce the launch of my online store, Suzanne Porter Limited Edition Photo Art; an accumulation of rich encounters around the world http://www.suzanneporter.com

Bouncing between fine art and editorial, capturing those ‘true’ moments in life, is what my photography is all about. People are my passion and photography the medium I use to communicate what I’ve seen. Blink and the moments gone…

My journey has been an interesting one…  Having qualified as a sociologist, I decided it was time to go and explore the world… My adventure started in Morocco, opening the doors to Africa, a continent I’m still discovering after 30 years.

Being tipped as a Shooting Star by the British Journal of Photography, it was my work during the land invasions in Zimbabwe in 2000 that formed my first exhibition in London.  This launched a fulfilling career photographing for humanitarian organisations such as WaterAid, CARE and Medecins sans Frontieres as well as being published in numerous travel books, newspapers and magazines and winning prestigious awards such as a Commonwealth Photography Award.

From my exhibition, ‘Secrets of the Sahara’ at the British Museum,  to my photos on permanent display at La Mamounia in Marrakech, I hope it’s the dignity, more than the suffering of the people I meet that comes through in my work…

All photographs on the website are for sale, even if they are not included in the shop. The Art Prints collections are continually being added to so do keep checking for new additions.  I have an enormous stock of photos that I am slowly working through so if you don’t find what you are looking for, then do get in touch. Or if you know you want something but don’t know exactly what,  I’ll listen and make suggestions that I think might be suitable;  whether its by colour, subject, location or other…  Alternative sizes or materials are also possible if you have any special requests

Please note that a percentage of profits from the sale of some photos will be donated to charity.  These tend to be the photographs I have taken whilst on assignment and will be donated to the charity that I was working for.

So I share with you my journey and hope you’ll want to be a part of it…

I can’t believe it’s 13 years today since my photo of Ami & Alimata made the front page of The Independent newspaper…

The photo was taken whilst on assignment for WaterAid in Burkina Faso. It was a great trip and I love the message I received the other day from Jules Acton, the WaterAid Media Manager at the time: ‘I often think back to our adventures in Burkina Faso – remember you arrived after getting caught in a sandstorm in the desert – you kind of shook off the sand and got on with it and went on to get that full front page of The Independent.’
